YSRCP to Project MAVIGUN as Alternative Development Model for Andhra Pradesh in 2029 Polls

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced that the Machilipatnam-Vijayawada-Guntur (MAVIGUN) proposal will be the party’s central election agenda for the 2029 Legislative Assembly elections.

Speaking to the media in Vijayawada, he stated that the party would present MAVIGUN as a practical and economically viable alternative development model to the existing Amaravati capital project.

According to him, Amaravati has become a source of alleged corruption and excessive spending, particularly benefiting contractors at the cost of public funds.

Jagan Mohan Reddy emphasised that MAVIGUN, which connects Machilipatnam, Vijayawada, and Guntur, has strong natural advantages and existing infrastructure that could significantly reduce development costs while promoting balanced regional growth. He added that the YSRCP would take this proposal directly to the people to seek a democratic mandate in 2029.

Alongside the development pitch, he sharply criticised the ruling coalition government in Andhra Pradesh, alleging a deterioration in law and order and misuse of police machinery against political opponents.

He described recent incidents involving YSRCP leaders and farmers as evidence of what he termed “Jungle Raj”, claiming that false cases were being filed against dissenters. He also raised concerns over alleged irregularities in electoral roll revisions, suggesting that they were being used to remove YSRCP supporters.

Further, he accused the government of weakening farmer welfare schemes introduced during his tenure, including crop insurance, Rythu Bharosa Kendras, and input subsidies, while also highlighting distress among tobacco and mango farmers due to falling prices.

Additionally, he criticised the state’s excise policy, alleged expansion of illegal liquor networks, and opposed certain policy changes such as the proposed beach shack framework.

He also questioned the government on issues related to Dalit Christian reservations and referenced ongoing investigations into custodial and other deaths, calling for greater transparency and accountability.
