The Norwegian certification agency DNV has certified Corpower Ocean's wave-driven power generator, the Corpower C4, for regular commercial use.This marks the first DNV prototype certificate for a wave energy converter, confirming the technology meets rigorous standards for structural strength, reliability, and safety.

The certification process spanned seven years, involving oversight from concept development through design, manufacturing, assembly, dry-running tests, and operational phases.

Patrik Moller, CEO of Corpower Ocean, emphasized that this certification transforms wave energy from a promising technology into a proven, financially viable solution.The certification opens new opportunities for project financing, insurance, and investments in commercial applications.The Corpower C4 system resembles a buoy, with a 19-meter-long floating body anchored to the seabed.Its internal mechanism converts wave motion into rotary motion to generate electricity.The company plans to deploy the first two industrial-scale wave energy farms off the coasts of Portugal and Scotland between 2027 and 2029.This development highlights the potential of wave energy as a sustainable alternative to traditional power sources.
