CUF Calls on Tanzanians to Preserve National Unity and Peace by Promoting Kiswahili

The Civic United Front (CUF) has called upon all Tanzanians to continue protecting the country's long-standing peace by strengthening national unity and promoting the use of Kiswahili as a common language.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily News, CUF Director of Politics and Public Affairs, Ali Makame Issa, said Tanzania's peace and stability are the result of deliberate nation-building efforts introduced by the country's founding leaders, especially Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.

He explained that Nyerere recognised the importance of having one national language that could unite more than 120 ethnic communities and reduce divisions based on tribe, religion or region.

According to Issa, Kiswahili has become much more than a language of communication, serving as an important tool for building mutual understanding, national identity and peaceful coexistence among citizens.

He reminded Tanzanians that the country's stability should never be taken for granted because it has been built over many decades through tolerance, respect and commitment to the national interest.

Issa further noted that peace creates the foundation for economic growth, social development and democratic progress, making it the responsibility of every citizen to protect it.He urged people to avoid actions that could create unnecessary divisions and instead prioritise unity above personal or group interests.

The CUF official also highlighted that Tanzania remains one of Africa's most stable countries because it has consistently promoted a shared national identity instead of ethnic politics.

In his closing remarks, he encouraged young Tanzanians to embrace patriotism, preserve the country's culture of peaceful coexistence and continue safeguarding the values established by the founding generation so that future generations can benefit from lasting peace and national unity.
