Tanzania’s basketball representatives Dar City are preparing for a crucial Basketball Africa League playoff match against Angola’s Petro de Luanda at BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.The Tanzanian side heads into the second-leg encounter carrying a six-point advantage after securing an impressive 88-82 victory in the first game.The result surprised many basketball followers across the continent and placed Dar City in a strong position to reach the BAL semifinals.Under the competition’s aggregate scoring format, Dar City only need to avoid losing by more than six points in order to progress to the next stage.
However, the team is aware that Petro de Luanda, one of Africa’s most respected basketball clubs, is expected to respond aggressively after the earlier defeat.Angola has a strong basketball tradition, making the encounter an important test for the Tanzanian side.Dar City’s first-leg success came through disciplined defending and a strong final quarter performance.The team showed composure under pressure and managed key moments effectively.
Ahead of the decisive clash, General Manager Simon Mirondo confirmed that all players are fit and ready, with confidence remaining high within the squad.
Mirondo praised head coach Mamadou “Pabi” Gueye for his tactical experience and understanding of the game, saying the technical bench is well prepared for Petro’s expected approach.He admitted the game will not be easy but expressed belief in the squad’s ability to achieve another positive result.
For Tanzanian basketball, reaching the BAL semifinals would be a major milestone and a sign that the country is becoming more competitive on the African basketball stage.The playoff action in Kigali will also feature defending champions Al Ahly Ly of Libya facing Tunisia’s Club Africain earlier in the evening.
