Dar City aim for historic BAL semifinal place against Petro de Luanda
Tanzanian basketball coach Henry Mwinuka is on the verge of making big history in African basketball as he leads Rwanda’s RSSB Tigers into the Basketball Africa League (BAL) final.The final match is set to be played against Angola’s strong side Petro de Luanda at Kigali’s BK Arena.
Mwinuka is just one win away from lifting the most prestigious club basketball trophy in Africa, marking a major achievement for both his career and Tanzanian coaching reputation.
The RSSB Tigers reached the final after a strong and confident semi-final performance where they defeated Egypt’s Al Ahly SC with a 106–97 win in a high-scoring and competitive game.This victory also marked the club’s first ever appearance in a BAL final, showing their growth and strength under Mwinuka’s leadership.
Throughout the tournament, the Tigers have shown strong teamwork, discipline, and tactical quality, which has been credited to the coach’s experience and calm approach.
The BAL, which started in 2021 through a partnership between the NBA and FIBA Africa, has become the top club basketball competition on the continent.It brings together elite teams from across Africa, offering players and coaches a platform to shine internationally.During the group stage, Mwinuka even faced a unique emotional moment when his team played against Tanzania’s Dar City, but his side still won 104–92.Before coaching in Rwanda, Mwinuka worked with several Tanzanian clubs including UDSM Basketball Club, Savio, and Pazi.He later achieved success with teams like Patriots BBC and Rwanda Energy Group.His journey now places him one step away from continental glory.
