The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) successfully arrested a suspected terrorist along the Garissa-Dadaab road in Garissa County during a routine multi-agency patrol, preventing what authorities believe could have been a planned attack.The suspect, identified as Hussein Issa Baraki, drew the attention of security officers after being spotted by the roadside in the Haji Aden area.Upon noticing the approaching officers, he attempted to flee into nearby bushes, prompting a chase through thick vegetation.Officers eventually managed to apprehend him and escorted him back to the exact location where he had been seen earlier.

A search of the area led to the discovery of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which authorities believe was intended for use in a potential terrorist operation.

In addition to the explosive device, security officers also recovered military-style jungle attire, including a jacket and trousers, as well as two mobile phones believed to be linked to the suspect's activities.The recovered items were secured as exhibits for forensic examination as investigations continue.The suspect was taken to Garissa Police Station for processing ahead of arraignment in court.The DCI commended the operation and reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorism and violent extremism in the region.

Authorities also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through official anonymous channels to support ongoing security efforts.
