DCI Foils Suspected Terror Plot and Recovers Explosive Device in Garissa-Dadaab Operation
Siaya Governor James Orengo has reported a series of alleged violent incidents during his political tour of Homa Bay County, claiming that his convoy was targeted by organised groups of attackers.
In a statement shared on social media, Orengo said that his visit, which included rallies in Mbita Town, Rusinga Island, and Sindo, was disrupted by individuals he described as hired goons. He alleged that the attacks began at the Mbita ferry landing, where his motorcade was confronted and some vehicles had their windscreens smashed.Despite the disruption, he stated that his supporters managed to repel the attackers, allowing planned rallies to proceed.
Orengo further claimed that as his team travelled through Suba South towards Sindo, they encountered roadblocks made of burning tyres and stones, and that one of his team members was assaulted.
He also reported a later incident at Kodoyo Junction, where he said the road had been blocked with a concrete electric pole and large boulders, followed by stone-throwing attacks on his convoy.According to him, two members of his team sustained serious injuries and were admitted to hospital in Homa Bay.
In his remarks, Orengo alleged that the violence was politically motivated and blamed his Homa Bay counterpart, Governor Gladys Wanga, for orchestrating the disruptions. He also raised concerns about the withdrawal of his official security detail prior to the trip, suggesting it exposed him to risk.
Additionally, he issued a warning to President William Ruto, accusing him of political intimidation and linking the situation to broader tensions within Kenyan politics.
The incidents have intensified political friction within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), where internal divisions have been emerging between rival factions.
While Orengo expressed determination to continue with his political engagements, the allegations have added to ongoing debates about political intolerance and security of leaders during campaigns in Kenya.
