Law enforcement officers in Delft intervened to rescue an infant from its intoxicated father during a routine traffic stop late Sunday evening.The officers noticed a man carrying a distressed baby, who was not dressed appropriately for the cold weather and lacked a blanket.The man, identified as the infant's father, was found to be in an advanced state of intoxication.

To ensure the child's safety, officers transported both individuals to the Delft SAPS, where social workers activated to secure a safe place for the infant.

Alderman JP Smith, the Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, commended the officers' quick thinking while highlighting the broader societal issue of alcohol abuse.

The incident occurred during a week of city-wide enforcement, resulting in 288 arrests, including 93 for drunk driving, and the recovery of stolen vehicles and firearms.This event underscores the critical role of law enforcement in protecting vulnerable individuals and addressing public safety concerns.
