The Delhi High Court on Tuesday declined to urgently hear a petition alleging that security personnel used excessive force against protesters during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) march to Parliament on Monday.While refusing an immediate hearing, the bench verbally observed, “Don’t drag court into all this.

” According to reports, the matter has been listed for hearing on Wednesday before a bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia.

The petition was filed after police used tear gas shells and conducted a lathi-charge to disperse demonstrators during the protest, which coincided with the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Although police prevented the main protest leaders from advancing, several demonstrators gathered at different locations in central Delhi and attempted to move closer to Parliament.

The Cockroach Janta Party also alleged that the Delhi Police fired pellet guns at protesters and claimed that a 10-year-old boy was slapped by police personnel during the operation.The Delhi Police rejected these allegations, specifically denying the use of pellet guns.The police instead alleged that sections of the protesters resorted to large-scale violence and damaged public property during the demonstration.

The protest was organised to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged mismanagement of competitive examinations.

At this stage, the court has not expressed any view on the merits of the allegations, and the claims made by both the protesters and the police remain disputed.The case is expected to be examined further when it comes up for hearing before the High Court.
