The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has strongly condemned a statement by some members of the Special Advisory Council for Myanmar (SAC-M), calling it 'malicious and misleading.

' The SAC-M criticized the Philippines' approach to engaging Myanmar's military-led government as a 'failure,' alleging that the country's ASEAN chairmanship is in a 'tailspin.' DFA Secretary Ma.

Theresa Lazaro, acting as ASEAN's Special Envoy on Myanmar, emphasized that the meetings with Myanmar's foreign minister were conducted in accordance with ASEAN's mandate to pursue constructive dialogue under the Five-Point Consensus (5PC).The 5PC, adopted in 2021, aims to address the political crisis in Myanmar through ceasefire, dialogue, humanitarian aid, and mediation.

The DFA reiterated its commitment to implementing the 5PC's action points, including expanding humanitarian assistance and facilitating dialogue among all parties.

The SAC-M's criticism highlights ongoing tensions in ASEAN's efforts to resolve the Myanmar conflict, with the DFA maintaining that its approach is principled and aligned with regional goals.
