Driver and two accomplices arrested in Edo over alleged diversion and attempted sale of company truck

Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps have arrested a driver, Muhammed Magaji, alongside two alleged accomplices, Muhammed Bashir and Abba Abubakar, over claims that they tried to divert and sell a company vehicle loaded with goods.

According to reports, Magaji, who works as a driver for a sachet water company based in Asaba, Delta State, was assigned a truck loaded with products meant for distribution.

Instead of carrying out his official delivery duties, he allegedly diverted the truck to Benin City in Edo State with the intention of selling both the vehicle and its goods. The incident reportedly happened on May 22, 2026, after the driver had spent about one year working with the company.

Investigations suggest that the driver conspired with the other suspects, who allegedly assured him that a buyer had already been arranged for the vehicle in Benin City. However, while waiting for the supposed buyer, security operatives tracked and arrested them before the transaction could be completed. The suspects were also said to have already sold about 150 bags of sachet water from the truck before their arrest.

The Deputy Commander of Operations of the Corps, Richard Balogun, confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspects acted in conspiracy to divert both the company property and goods entrusted to the driver. He further noted that the suspects have been transferred to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.Authorities say the case is now under police custody for deeper interrogation and legal action.
