Federal Government approves forest guard recruitment and special rescue operation following Oyo school kidnappings

President Bola Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State and ordered the deployment of a specialised rescue team following the abduction of pupils and teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area.The incident, which happened on May 15, 2026, involved kidnappers attacking Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A.Primary School, taking away students and teachers in a shocking security breach that has raised serious concern across the state and the country.

In response, a high-powered Federal Government delegation visited Esiele and Yawota communities on Sunday, May 31, 2026, to reassure residents and update them on efforts being made to rescue the victims safely.

The delegation was led by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, alongside key security figures including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, and Special Adviser Sunday Dare.

Gbajabiamila conveyed President Tinubu’s deep concern over the abductions, stressing that the President had directed security agencies to deploy all necessary resources for an intelligence-led and well-coordinated rescue mission.He also stated that the operation would combine both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to ensure the safe return of the abducted victims.

The delegation further engaged with community leaders and traditional rulers, including the Soun of Ogbomosoland, and also visited the family of a deceased schoolteacher to express condolences and assure them of government support.

Discussions also included community demands for the establishment of a military base in the area, which was noted for further consideration by the Presidency.Authorities reiterated their commitment to restoring security and bringing the abducted pupils and teachers home safely.
