Final year Kogi health sciences student dies in Lokoja road accident after completing exams
The Oyo State Fire Service has confirmed the death of two passengers after a Toyota Avensis plunged into a river at Ariyo River along Amuloko in Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday night.According to officials, the vehicle reportedly lost control while in motion before veering off the road and entering the river.A distress call was received at about 21:40hrs on Friday, May 29, 2026, prompting an immediate emergency response from fire officers.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, explained that a rescue team led by ACFS Amoo was quickly deployed to the scene after receiving the alert.On arrival, responders confirmed that the car had already submerged in the river.Rescue operations were carried out using standard emergency procedures, and the team successfully recovered two victims from the submerged vehicle.Following the recovery, the bodies of the deceased were handed over to officers of the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.The victims were received by a police team led by ASP Adesuwa Sesan of the Ogbere Target Police Station in Ibadan.
Authorities stated that all necessary operational procedures were followed during the rescue mission, and the operation was concluded after the recovery of the casualties.The incident has added to concerns about road safety and accidents along waterways and poorly secured road sections in the state.
