The Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD) outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) remains active, with sustained transmission driving increases in reported cases and deaths.As of 15 July 2026, a cumulative total of 2,124 confirmed cases, including 828 deaths, have been reported from the DRC.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) confirmed this in a statement, noting that German authorities reported a laboratory-confirmed BVD case in a US humanitarian worker evacuated from the DRC on July 13.Uganda, which had no new BVD cases since June 21, began a 42-day surveillance period after discharging its last patient on 16 July.Health authorities in the DRC and Uganda, along with WHO and partners, are continuing extensive outbreak response measures, including surveillance.The situation highlights the ongoing challenges in controlling the outbreak and the need for sustained efforts to prevent further spread.The WHO emphasized the importance of international collaboration in managing such health crises, especially in regions with limited resources.
