El-Rufai’s Wife Appeals to Tinubu for Fair Treatment, Bail Rights and Access to Medical Care

Hajiya Asiya El-Rufai, wife of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that her husband receives fair treatment while he remains in detention.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja alongside El-Rufai’s other wife, Aichatou, she recalled that both she and her husband actively supported Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election campaign. She stressed that the family is not asking the President to stop the ongoing prosecution or interfere with the judicial process.

Instead, they are requesting that El-Rufai be allowed to enjoy his constitutional rights, including access to his doctors, lawyers, family members and bail on reasonable terms.Asiya alleged that her husband, who reportedly suffers from high blood pressure and high blood sugar, has been denied adequate medical attention. She also expressed concern over the arrest of El-Rufai’s personal physician, Prof.Bello Abubakar, by the ICPC, questioning the reported instruction that prevented the doctor from seeing anyone for 24 hours.

According to her, restrictions placed on visits from relatives and legal representatives have made it difficult for El-Rufai to prepare his defence properly.

She described the family's experience as traumatic, saying they live in constant fear over his wellbeing and believe the continued restrictions amount to psychological pressure on both El-Rufai and his family.

She urged President Tinubu to ensure that justice is carried out fairly, insisting that if El-Rufai is guilty, the court should determine that, and if he is innocent, the court should also be allowed to reach that conclusion through a fair legal process.
