Fans react to Nate Jacobs’ death in latest Euphoria episode
The HBO series Euphoria concluded its third season on 31 May 2026, which creator Sam Levinson confirmed as the show’s final season. The finale was marked by tragedy, with Rue, played by Zendaya, dying from a fentanyl-laced overdose.During her final moments, she experiences visions of her family and friends, including the late Fezco. In response to her death, Ali avenges her by killing Alamo.Meanwhile, characters Cassie and Maddy plan to turn Nate’s former home into an influencer hub, though Lexi chooses not to join.
Fan reactions on social media were polarising, with many criticising the abrupt focus on Ali, a previously minor character, and the lack of satisfying conclusions for central characters.Several viewers labelled the finale as messy and anticlimactic, comparing it to other poorly received final seasons of popular shows. Some, however, expressed a more positive view, describing the ending as honest and emotionally resonant.
Levinson explained that the ending reflected the harsh reality of addiction and the fentanyl crisis, noting that Rue’s death mirrored the experiences of many who relapse and cannot overcome addiction.
Additionally, the season sparked controversy for its depiction of sex work and online content creation, particularly involving Cassie and OnlyFans-related storylines.
