FCT Police Arrest Four Officers for Forcing ICPC Chairman to Pay at Illegal Checkpoint

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police arrested four officers accused of extorting ₦53,000 from ICPC Chairman Dr.Musa Aliyu at an illegal checkpoint in Abuja.

The officers, who were not aware they were dealing with the anti-corruption chief, forced Aliyu to withdraw money from a POS machine and split the proceeds among themselves.

FCT Commissioner Ahmed Sanusi described the officers as 'criminals' and revealed they formed an extortion syndicate, operating outside their duty posts to target unsuspecting motorists.

Investigations confirmed the officers abandoned their posts to set up an unauthorized checkpoint, leading to the arrest of the gang leader and three others.Sanusi emphasized that officers have no authority to stop or search civilians during patrols, warning citizens not to comply with such demands.

The police command vowed to investigate and punish all involved in extortion, illegal checkpoints, and misconduct, ensuring corrupt personnel are not tolerated in the force. The incident highlights ongoing issues of police abuse of power and the need for stricter accountability measures.
