The Nigerian federal government has announced the recruitment of 37,000 health workers since 2023 as part of its efforts to strengthen the healthcare system.

This initiative, detailed in a statement by the Ministry of Health, comes alongside the training of 70,000 frontline workers to address staffing shortages and improve service delivery.

The government emphasized its commitment to the Presidential Health Sector Renewal Compact, which aims to modernize healthcare infrastructure and services.

Key achievements include the completion of 80% of performance indicators under the compact, though challenges like funding gaps and infrastructure deficits persist.The National Policy on Health Workforce Migration was also highlighted, aiming to attract skilled professionals while managing migration trends.Additionally, the government allocated funds for primary health centers (PHCs) and launched initiatives to combat diseases like malaria and HIV.The statement reaffirmed collaboration with healthcare professionals, civil society, and international partners to build a resilient health system.

While the government acknowledged ongoing challenges, it stressed the importance of sustained reforms over rhetoric, ensuring measurable results for citizens.
