Federal High Court Adjourns Trial of Five Men Accused of Hiding Former Governor's Location

The Federal High Court in Abuja adjourned the trial of five men accused of hiding the whereabouts of former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva until October 5.The trial, which was set to begin before Justice Peter Lifu, couldn't proceed because the court didn't sit.

The defendants—Reuben Ayuba, Musa Mohammed, Friday Paul, Paganengigha Anagaha, and Ayebaifie Suobite—were arraigned on July 1 and charged with conspiracy and acting as accessories after a felony by concealing Sylva's location. They pleaded not guilty, and the court granted them ₦5 million bail each with two sureties.

The prosecution alleged the defendants concealed Sylva's whereabouts despite knowing he was wanted by law enforcement, violating Section 519 of the Criminal Code Act.Sylva, who is at large, is also facing separate charges in another case involving alleged plots to overthrow President Tinubu's government. The court documents mention Sylva's financial links to the accused, but the allegations remain unresolved.
