Four Tanzanians awarded Mexico World Cup trips through Mixx digital payments campaign

Four Tanzanian citizens have been rewarded with all-expenses-paid trips to Mexico after emerging winners in a promotional campaign run by digital financial services provider Mixx.

The winners—Sumaiya Khamis from Zanzibar, Deogratius Haule, Edwin Kambo, and John Mzee—will travel to attend a FIFA World Cup match between Mexico and England scheduled for July 6, 2026.

The announcement and official send-off ceremony took place in Dar es Salaam on July 3, 2026, where the winners received their travel documents before departure.

The promotion, titled “Kila Muamala ni Bao la Ushindi” (meaning “Every Transaction is a Winning Goal”), was designed to encourage Tanzanians to increase the use of digital payment systems and reduce reliance on cash transactions.

According to Mixx leadership, the campaign aims to promote financial inclusion while rewarding customers for their everyday financial activities such as sending money, paying bills, and making purchases.

Mixx Chief Executive Officer Angelica Pesha stated that each transaction holds value beyond convenience, contributing to safer, more efficient financial services and business growth across Tanzania.

She highlighted that the initiative has already benefited more than 60 customers since its launch, with prizes ranging from cash rewards to household appliances and World Cup tickets.Weekly cash prizes of 1 million Tanzanian shillings continue, alongside a grand prize of 50 million shillings.

One of the winners, John Mzee, expressed gratitude and surprise, saying he never imagined routine transactions could lead to an opportunity to attend a World Cup match abroad.

The campaign reflects the growing adoption of mobile money and digital payments in Tanzania, where financial technology is increasingly shaping daily life.Mixx hopes such initiatives will further accelerate the shift toward a cashless economy while rewarding loyal users.
