Rock In Rio Lisbon: A Unique Festival Combining Music, Innovation and Community
The Freedom 250 Great American State Fair, part of a larger celebration linked to Donald Trump’s commemorative initiative, has announced its music line-up for an event set to take place at the National Mall in Washington D.C.between 25 June and 10 July.
The organisers describe the event as a large-scale, World’s Fair-style celebration intended to showcase all 56 US states and territories, offering live music, carnival attractions, and interactive exhibits designed to highlight regional culture and traditions.
The initial line-up includes a range of well-known acts spanning different eras and genres, such as Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, Flo Rida, Bret Michaels of Poison, The Commodores, Martina McBride, Young MC, and C+C Music Factory.
The event is being promoted as a free-admission experience, with visitors able to explore themed activations representing different parts of the United States. However, the announcement has already been followed by withdrawals from some performers.
Morris Day & The Time confirmed via social media that they would not be appearing, stating that they had no intention of participating in the event.Young MC also announced his withdrawal, claiming that artists were not informed about any political association with the festival.
He further expressed concern that the event, despite being described by organisers as non-partisan, has been portrayed in media reports as politically linked.
The situation has raised questions about transparency in booking and communication with artists, particularly regarding the perceived political nature of the event.
While organisers continue to promote the fair as a unifying national celebration, the early withdrawals highlight tensions between entertainment programming and political branding surrounding the Freedom 250 initiative. The event remains scheduled to proceed in Washington D.C., with organisers encouraging the public to register for free attendance.
