Gachagua Criticizes Kindiki's Insincere Congratulatory Remarks After Ol Kalou By-Election Victory

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly dismissed Deputy President Kithure Kindiki's congratulatory remarks to Ol Kalou MP-elect Sammy Douglas Kamau as insincere, accusing Kindiki of hypocrisy.

Gachagua made the comments during a press address in Nyahururu on July 17, following Kamau's decisive victory in the Ol Kalou by-election on July 16.

Kamau, who ran on Gachagua's Democracy for Citizens Party ticket, secured 35,440 votes, a stark contrast to United Democratic Alliance candidate Samuel Muchinah Nyaga's 5,450 votes.

Gachagua criticized Kindiki for previously sidelining Kamau, forcing him out of a role and sending him home without work, and now pretending to congratulate him.'You sacked this man, made him jobless, and now you're faking congratulations,' Gachagua said, calling Kindiki's gesture fake.

The remarks come amid ongoing tensions between Gachagua and the current administration, following his impeachment as deputy president in October 2024.

The incident highlights political rivalries and the personal attacks common in Kenyan politics, where public figures often use such events to undermine opponents. The article underscores the dynamics of power struggles within the ruling party and the impact of by-elections on political careers.
