A seven-metre approach road connecting the Ganga Expressway with the Sonic toll plaza in Unnao suffered significant damage during the first heavy rain two months after its inauguration.The road near kilometre 421 on the Meerut-Prayagraj carriageway experienced a washout, with soil erosion causing part of the carriageway to collapse.By Saturday, further erosion led to damaged traffic signs and roadside drains.Emergency repairs were conducted, but concerns remain about the embankment's stability.Locals allege inadequate slope protection measures, such as grass cover, contributed to the damage.Patel Infrastructure project manager Satish Singh acknowledged potential issues post-rainfall but assured repairs would be made.

This incident adds to a list of defects reported on the ₹12,000 crore expressway, which faced earlier issues like subsidence and soil erosion even before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's April 29 inauguration.The damaged stretch highlights ongoing challenges in maintaining infrastructure quality and raises questions about construction standards.
