Garuda Indonesia and SAS Introduce Codeshare Flights Connecting Indonesia and Scandinavian Cities

Garuda Indonesia and Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) have announced a new codeshare agreement designed to improve air connectivity between Indonesia and the Nordic region.

The partnership, signed on June 7 during the IATA Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, will become operational on June 15, with tickets already available through both airlines.

Under the agreement, travelers will be able to book a single itinerary between Jakarta or Bali and the Scandinavian capitals of Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Oslo.

Connections will be routed through Amsterdam and Tokyo Haneda, allowing passengers to complete their journeys with one reservation, a single check-in process, and through-checked baggage to their final destinations.

Garuda will place its flight code on SAS-operated services between the connecting hubs and Scandinavia, while SAS will place its code on selected Garuda flights linking Jakarta with Amsterdam, Tokyo Haneda, and Bali. The airlines also plan to expand the arrangement to include Bangkok beginning in the winter 2026/27 season.

Frequent-flyer benefits are another key feature of the partnership, as members of GarudaMiles and SAS EuroBonus will be able to earn and redeem miles across the combined network.

Both carriers belong to the SkyTeam alliance, making the codeshare a deeper extension of an existing alliance relationship rather than a completely new partnership.Garuda has been a SkyTeam member since 2014, while SAS joined the alliance in September 2024 after completing a significant financial restructuring.

Although the agreement strengthens travel options between Indonesia and Scandinavia, passengers will still have alternative connections through major Gulf carriers such as Emirates, Etihad Airways, and Qatar Airways, as well as through KLM's nonstop Jakarta-Amsterdam service.
