Married at First Sight UK cast member arrested following rape allegations linked to Panorama investigation
Former glam rock star Gary Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, has been charged with four historic sexual offences relating to allegations dating back several decades.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), the charges include one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14.The alleged offences are said to have taken place between 1978 and 1981, following claims made by a woman regarding abuse during that period.
Bethan David, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor in CPS London, confirmed that prosecutors had concluded there was sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and that pursuing prosecution was in the public interest. She also stated that the CPS had worked closely with the Metropolitan Police throughout their investigation into the allegations. The CPS emphasised that criminal proceedings are now active, and therefore the defendant is entitled to a fair trial.
It further warned that it is extremely important that there is no reporting, commentary, or online sharing of information that could prejudice the ongoing legal process. The case forms part of continuing efforts by UK authorities to address allegations of non-recent sexual abuse.Gary Glitter rose to fame in the 1970s as a pop and glam rock performer, achieving significant commercial success. However, his later life has been overshadowed by multiple criminal convictions and allegations related to sexual offences. This latest case adds further legal proceedings against him, though the courts will ultimately determine the outcome based on the evidence presented.
