The Tanzanian government is addressing a persistent shortage of vocational education teachers by planning to involve experienced mechanics and workshop artisans in providing practical training to students.This comes as preparations continue for the first double intake into Form One under the compulsory education programme in 2028.

Permanent Secretary Prof Carolyne Nombo highlighted the need to rethink teacher recruitment strategies, questioning how shortages can occur despite nearby vocational facilities.She emphasized the importance of integrating local artisans' expertise into training programs to meet international standards.The initiative follows efforts to strengthen vocational teacher capacity, including sending instructors abroad for technical training.

The government remains committed to expanding vocational schools and ensuring curriculum reforms support students' progression in technical fields.

Private sector participation and sustainable financing models for higher education loans were also stressed as critical for achieving Development Vision 2050 goals.
