Home Minister Amit Shah has directed all 62 major airports in India to align with Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) standards within two years, aiming to boost passenger convenience while maintaining commercial area norms.
The directive includes expanding baggage drop facilities to high-traffic international airports, installing automated X-ray tray return systems (ARTS) to reduce human resource costs, and conducting third-party studies during peak travel seasons to cut passenger delays.
Shah also emphasized operationalizing Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) offices at all state capitals by 2027 and establishing authorized immigration checkpoints at Agartala and Jewar airports.
The Fast Track Immigration - Trusted Travellers' Programme (FTI-TTP) will be promoted through airline partnerships, allowing pre-approved passengers to use automated e-gates with biometric identification. These measures aim to streamline immigration processes and enhance overall travel experiences for flyers.
