Lewis Hamilton achieved a landmark victory at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, securing his first Formula One win since joining Ferrari and his 106th career Grand Prix victory.
The seven-time world champion delivered an emotional performance, thanking Ferrari’s Maranello team over the radio after ending a long wait for success that stretched back to his final Mercedes victories. The win also marked Ferrari’s first Formula One victory since 2024 and Hamilton’s seventh triumph at the Spanish circuit. The race was significantly influenced by the retirement of championship leader Kimi Antonelli.
The 19-year-old Mercedes driver, who had won the previous five races, suffered an electrical failure with only five laps remaining while running in second place. His retirement reduced his championship advantage over Hamilton to 41 points.
Mercedes driver George Russell finished second after starting from pole position, while reigning world champion Lando Norris claimed third place for McLaren.
Hamilton benefited strategically from a virtual safety car period triggered by Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin, allowing him to make a cost-effective third pit stop while maintaining track position.
Despite the victory, Hamilton acknowledged that Mercedes still possesses strong pace and said Ferrari would continue working to close the performance gap over the remainder of the season.Max Verstappen finished fourth for Red Bull, followed by Oscar Piastri in fifth and Isack Hadjar in sixth.
The result also produced a historic all-British podium, with Hamilton, Russell and Norris becoming the first trio of British drivers to occupy the top three positions in a Formula One race since the 1968 United States Grand Prix.Separately, Toyota won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with Kamui Kobayashi, Mike Conway and Nyck de Vries taking overall victory.South African Sheldon Van der Linde helped BMW secure second place.
