Heavy rains cause fatalities and damage in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, authorities issue flood and landslide alerts

Heavy rains and flash floods have caused at least 12 deaths and 18 injuries across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in the past 48 hours, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).The incidents have damaged 18 houses, with 15 sustaining partial damage and three completely destroyed.Affected areas include Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, Chitral, Lower Dir, Hazara Division, Kurram, and North Waziristan.The PDMA has directed district administrations to provide relief supplies to victims.

Separately, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide flood and landslide alert for July 21-24, warning of flash floods, urban flooding, and rising river levels in KP, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Balochistan.Specific risks include rivers in Hunza, Shigar, and Ghanche in Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Jhelum, Neelum, and Poonch rivers in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.The NDMA has advised avoiding travel to vulnerable areas and urged people to follow safety guidelines during heavy monsoon rains.
