US and Kenya Discuss Coordinated Response to Ebola Outbreak
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has openly criticised the Kenyan government, accusing it of mismanagement, corruption, and putting public health at risk.
His comments followed the High Court's decision to temporarily stop any establishment of Ebola quarantine, isolation, or treatment facilities in Kenya linked to foreign governments, including the United States.Gachagua described the court ruling as a protection against what he called a dangerous scheme by the current administration. He praised the judiciary for standing firm against what he termed the excesses of a rogue regime.
He also lauded healthcare professionals and the Kenyan public for raising concerns against the reported plans, arguing that allowing foreign-linked Ebola centres could expose millions to serious health risks.
The court acted after Katiba Institute filed an urgent petition, supported by an affidavit from Nora Mbagathi, highlighting imminent threats to life if the facilities were established.Justice P.M.
Nyaundi issued conservatory orders preventing the government from facilitating, admitting, or transferring any Ebola-exposed individuals into Kenya under foreign arrangements, pending full hearing of the case. The matter is scheduled for further directions on June 2, 2026.These orders remain in effect to safeguard public interest and ensure constitutional protections are respected.
