House Democrats have launched scrutiny into allegations surrounding the organization of America’s upcoming 250th Independence Day celebration, claiming that the White House attempted to exert undue political influence over what was intended to be a nonpartisan national event.According to an interim report released by House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Rep.

Jared Huffman, investigators accuse the administration of shifting control away from the congressionally established America250 commission and toward a separate entity called Freedom 250 LLC.

The report alleges that the White House initially sought to influence America250’s operations and later helped facilitate the creation of Freedom 250 LLC, which some lawmakers and journalists describe as a “shadow organization.” Critics argue this group was used to advance a partisan agenda during preparations for the United States’ 250th birthday celebrations.

One of the most serious allegations in the report is that donors who believed they were contributing to the official America250 commission were instead directed to Freedom 250 accounts, potentially without their knowledge.

Lawmakers involved in the investigation suggest that this could constitute wire fraud, a federal offense involving the use of electronic communications to execute a deceptive financial scheme.

The report also claims that the original congressional funding allocation of approximately $100 million for America250 was reduced to under $25 million due to political interference and restructuring efforts.Separately, Senate Democrats, led by Sen.

Adam Schiff, have initiated their own inquiry into Freedom 250’s financing and operations, examining allegations of a pay-to-play system involving access to political figures.Critics, including Rep.James Walkinshaw, argue that the alleged actions turned a historically nonpartisan national celebration into a politically driven initiative.The investigations are ongoing, and no formal legal conclusions have yet been reached.
