ICPC Investigates Femi Gbajabiamila Over PFIPC Allegations

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, appeared before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) as part of an investigation into the activities of the disputed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).His lawyer confirmed the meeting, stating Gbajabiamila complied with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to probe the agency.The controversy began when Adeniyi Adeyemi, claiming to be the DG of PFIPC, accused Gbajabiamila of demanding 48% of a ₦27.3bn grant and receiving ₦400m through a proxy.Gbajabiamila denied all allegations, asserting no relationship with Adeyemi and no involvement in misconduct.He also rejected claims linking him to the alleged death of Babatunde Tanimola and an assassination attempt.President Tinubu ordered the ICPC investigation after the allegations.Gbajabiamila also filed a ₦15bn defamation suit against Adeyemi, seeking damages and a retraction.Meanwhile, a parliamentary committee was established to investigate PFIPC’s legal status and funding, with assurances of a transparent probe.The case highlights tensions between political figures and anti-corruption bodies in Nigeria.
