Advocate Andrea Johnson, head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), has formally requested immediate release from her position, citing unprecedented scrutiny and reputational risks to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and IDAC.In a letter to the national director of public prosecutions, Johnson waived her three-month notice period, seeking to leave within 24 hours.

The request follows intense pressure from the Madlanga Commission, where she faced cross-examination over allegations of leaking sensitive information and politically motivated investigations.

Johnson, a veteran prosecutor with over three decades of service, linked her decision to the fallout from IDAC's high-profile cases against Crime Intelligence officials.She admitted to errors in previous testimony but maintained her investigations were evidence-driven, not political.Despite denying wrongdoing, the allegations against her remain unproven.

Johnson, who is set to retire next month, aims to exit her role with minimal disruption, avoiding potential legal battles with the presidency or NDPP.
