Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed all police officers nationwide to shoot at sight anyone found with illegal firearms.This directive was given during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Makurdi, Benue State.

Disu emphasized that the era of passive policing is over, and officers can now act immediately under Force Order 237 without needing superior approval.He cited President Bola Tinubu’s directive to end insecurity in Benue, stressing that only authorized personnel should carry firearms.Disu warned that carrying arms without authorization is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.He also highlighted the need for public cooperation, stating that security agencies are tired of losing officers and civilians to violence.The IGP reiterated that officers are trained to handle such situations and urged the public to support the effort to restore safety in the region.
