Sara Duterte Impeachment Trial Advances as Bea Alonzo Marries Puregold Heir
The impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte is gaining momentum as prosecution teams plan to add more witnesses to address allegations of her allegedly orchestrating the killing of President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr., his wife Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Impeachment court spokesperson Regie Tongol confirmed that the House prosecution panel will no longer call Office of the Vice President chief of staff Zuleika Lopez and House Legislative Security Bureau executive director Belinda Bello as witnesses.Instead, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag is set to testify on Article IV, which focuses on the alleged threats.Tongol noted that the 11 trial days initially allocated for this article may be shortened due to the withdrawal of Lopez and Bello.
The prosecution team has not yet disclosed other witnesses, but the case against Duterte remains under scrutiny as the impeachment court continues its proceedings within the approved 92-day trial period.
Legal experts emphasize that the focus remains on gathering evidence rather than political maneuvering, highlighting the gravity of the allegations and the need for thorough judicial review.
