The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that the Continuous Voter Registration exercise will end by midnight on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

This decision comes despite calls from some opposition parties for an extension due to concerns about millions of citizens being excluded from the 2027 general elections.

INEC National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna explained that closing the registration window is necessary to allow the commission to clean and verify data collected.

The IT team and Voter Registration Department will process the data immediately after midnight, using the Automated Biometric Identification System to detect duplicate registrations.The final voter list will be published for public scrutiny after claims and objections are addressed.Haruna emphasized that the deadline must remain fixed to ensure a clean register, as indefinite registration would disrupt election preparations.Chief Press Secretary Dayo Oketola added that the decision aligns with legal provisions and is crucial for upcoming elections.

The commission also highlighted extensive voter education campaigns to encourage participation, ensuring eligible Nigerians are aware of the deadline.
