The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of the 2027 general election.

The commission assured Nigerians that every valid vote will count in the upcoming elections, urging eligible voters to complete their registration before the deadline.The CVR process included fresh registrations, transfers, corrections, and replacement of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).INEC Chairman Prof.Joash Amupitan emphasized the importance of credible elections where citizens' votes are reflected accurately.

Stakeholders like the CDHR president, Comrade Yinka Folarin, urged making voter registration a permanent feature to ensure all eligible voters are included.

Challenges such as low participation in rural areas and poor internet access were highlighted, with calls for collaboration with agencies like NIMC to improve data sharing.

Despite these hurdles, INEC remains confident in its capacity to manage the electoral process, citing technological innovations like the Result Viewing Portal (IReV).

The exercise concluded on July 26, 2026, with over 6 million new voters registered, underscoring the importance of civic engagement for democratic participation.
