IHC Suspends NHA's Additional Toll on Vehicles Without M-Tag
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a stay order preventing the National Highway Authority (NHA) from collecting additional toll charges from non-M-Tag users and motorists with low balances. The court suspended a notification that imposed a 50% surcharge on these groups until the next hearing.Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir directed the NHA to halt toll tax collection pending further proceedings.
This decision comes after the government suspended a proposed toll increase in April at Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's directive to ease public burden amid economic challenges. The court also ordered the NHA to submit responses to the case, emphasizing the need for transparency in toll management.
The ruling reflects ongoing tensions between authorities and citizens over transportation costs, with legal avenues being used to challenge financial burdens on commuters.
