Jinggoy Estrada secures bail in graft case involving flood control projects
Senator Jinggoy Estrada remains free after posting bail amounting to P90,000 in connection with a graft case linked to alleged anomalies in flood control projects. The bail was filed before the Sandiganbayan 2nd Division on Friday, May 29, allowing him to temporarily avoid detention while the case proceeds.
The 2nd Division had earlier issued a warrant of arrest and a hold departure order against Estrada and his co-accused, indicating the seriousness of the charges involved.
The graft case is part of a broader controversy tied to alleged irregularities in government-funded flood control projects, which have been associated with corruption allegations involving public funds.
Despite the warrant issued by one division of the anti-graft court, Estrada remains free due to his posting of bail, which legally allows him to stay out of detention while facing trial. However, a separate case is still pending. The Sandiganbayan 5th Division, which is handling Estrada’s non-bailable plunder case, has yet to resolve whether it will issue a warrant of arrest. This means that while he is currently not in custody, his legal situation remains uncertain and could change depending on the court’s decision.
The developments highlight ongoing judicial proceedings involving high-profile officials in the Philippines and underscore continuing public attention on corruption cases linked to infrastructure spending. As of now, Estrada continues to face legal scrutiny across multiple divisions of the Sandiganbayan while remaining out on bail for the graft charge.
