Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (Idac) head Andrea Johnson has retracted her claim that Brig Dineo Mokwele was unqualified for a senior SAPS post after reviewing her files.

The admission follows cross-examination by commissioner Sandile Khumalo, who presented Mokwele's qualifications including a B-Tech in industrial engineering and mechatronics certifications.Johnson acknowledged her initial assessment was based on incomplete information from her team and apologized publicly.The directorate's case against Mokwele, alleging improper appointment in a corruption probe, is now under review by an independent panel.

Johnson also admitted procedural errors in handling a complaint against Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo, which sparked tensions with KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.The oversight judge has initiated an investigation into Johnson's conduct, while the MK Party threatens a perjury case over missing documents.The incident highlights systemic issues within Idac's credibility and its role in high-profile corruption cases.
