The German football federation has appointed Juergen Klopp as the new head coach of the national team, succeeding Julian Nagelsmann who resigned after Germany failed to advance past the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

Klopp, the former Liverpool manager, signed a contract to lead Germany until the 2030 World Cup, emphasizing his commitment to revitalizing the squad's performance.The decision comes after weeks of negotiations, with Klopp staying in the US as a World Cup pundit for a German-language broadcaster.His appointment marks a significant shift, as he aims to address the team's recurring struggles in major tournaments.Klopp, 59, has previously managed Bundesliga clubs and spent time as head of global soccer for Red Bull.The federation has also agreed to pay €1m to a Red Bull-linked charity and host three matches in Leipzig.Klopp faces an immediate challenge with four Nations League games against the Netherlands, Greece, and Serbia in late September and early October.The new managing director for sport, Per Mertesacker, will oversee youth development to integrate players into the senior team.This move signals a strategic effort to rebuild Germany's football infrastructure and achieve success in future World Cups.
