The Kenya High Commission in Canberra has confirmed that it is actively working together with Australian authorities to investigate the death of Kenyan national Sheila Chebii, who passed away in Sydney, Australia.

In a statement released on Sunday, the diplomatic mission expressed deep sorrow over Chebii’s death and extended condolences to her immediate family, friends, relatives, and the wider Kenyan community living in Australia.

The High Commission noted that members of the Kenyan diaspora had raised concerns regarding the circumstances surrounding her death, which prompted the mission to engage relevant Australian agencies to ensure a proper and factual investigation is carried out.

According to the statement, the mission is focused on obtaining verified information in accordance with Australian legal and coronial procedures as the investigation continues.

It emphasised the importance of allowing due process to take its course, noting that official updates will be shared once confirmed details are available.

The diplomatic office also urged the public and media not to engage in speculation or circulate unverified claims while investigations are ongoing, warning that such actions could interfere with the process and cause unnecessary distress to the family involved.

Additionally, the High Commission reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare and interests of Kenyan citizens living not only in Australia but also in New Zealand and Pacific Island countries.

It stated that it will continue to engage through diplomatic and consular channels to support affected families and ensure proper communication with authorities.
