Kenya National Highways Authority Orders Traders to Vacate Kamulu-Joska Road for Road Upgrades

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a 30-day eviction notice to all traders and unauthorised structures along the Kamulu-Joska-Malaa-Tala-Kangundo (B63) Road. The notice, released on May 29, 2026, cites that occupation of road reserves is illegal under the Kenya Roads Act 2007 and the Traffic Act Cap 403.

KeNHA explained that the eviction is necessary to allow for road improvement works, including the construction of bus bays and rehabilitation of drainage systems. The goal is to enhance traffic flow, improve safety, and reduce congestion along this busy route.

All traders and occupants are expected to remove their goods and structures by June 29, 2026, after which any remaining items will be removed at the owner’s expense.

This action comes a day after a similar notice was issued to traders along the Kisii-Ahero road as part of KeNHA’s wider initiative to improve road safety and ensure smooth traffic movement across key highways in Kenya.

The authority emphasised that failure to comply is a criminal offence and warned that enforcement measures will follow immediately after the deadline.
