Mudavadi Says Kenya Is Building 16 Ebola Preparedness Centres to Strengthen National Health Response
Health CS Aden Duale has reassured Kenyans that there are no confirmed Ebola cases in the country after testing three suspected patients and four contacts, all of whom returned negative results.
This announcement comes as the Ebola outbreak worsens in Uganda and the DRC, with the WHO declaring it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.Kenya has ramped up health monitoring at airports and land borders, screening over 42,000 travellers to prevent potential importation.
Duale highlighted that the government has activated a multi-sectoral preparedness plan through KNPHI, including operationalisation of Public Health Emergency Operations Centres, rapid response teams, and designated Ebola testing laboratories in Nairobi and Kisumu, plus a mobile lab for emergency deployment.
Twenty-two counties, especially those near major transport routes and borders, are under close surveillance, with healthcare workers continuously trained and equipped with protective gear.
The CS urged Kenyans to avoid misinformation and seek immediate medical attention if they experience Ebola-like symptoms such as fever, severe fatigue, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain, or unexplained bleeding.
While Kenya remains vulnerable due to regional connections, the government continues to implement risk-based screening, traveller monitoring, and rapid response protocols to safeguard public health.
