Haji, a 27-year-old Kenyan, had dreams of completing a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology but was forced to drop out after his first year at university because of severe financial challenges.Despite maintaining a good academic record, he lacked the necessary funds and support from his family.His mother passed away in 2014, and his father, believing Haji should now be independent, provided no assistance.With no help from other relatives, Haji had to fend for himself.He turned to collecting and selling cans and plastic bottles on the streets to survive.He works in two shifts, starting at 3am and again at 3pm, earning about KSh 250 a day, which covers only basic needs and cannot fund his education.Haji remains hopeful that one day he will be able to return to university, but for now, he continues his street hustle to stay afloat.This story highlights the harsh reality many young Kenyans face when financial constraints block access to higher education.
