Kenyans contribute over KSh 1 million to support TikToker Val’s mother’s burial expenses

Kenyans have come together in a strong show of solidarity to support TikTok content creator Odundo Valery, popularly known as Val, following the death of her mother.

According to reports, well-wishers managed to raise more than KSh 1,055,295 through organised fundraising efforts meant to help cater for burial expenses and related arrangements.

The contributions were collected through the OneKitty fundraising platform, with friends, fans, and followers actively participating and sending messages of support during this difficult period.

Leaked WhatsApp messages circulating online indicated that the burial fundraising officially began shortly after the family announced the passing, with organisers expressing gratitude for the overwhelming emotional and financial support received.

Updates from the organisers also confirmed that the burial has been scheduled for June 13 in Kisumu, although the exact location and final arrangements are yet to be fully disclosed.Members of the public have been warmly invited to attend and continue supporting the family as preparations progress.Val had earlier shared emotional posts on social media mourning her mother, revealing that she had passed away after a period of illness. She had previously celebrated Mother’s Day with her, making the loss even more painful for her and her close circle.

The fundraising effort reflects a broader culture of online communities in Kenya rallying behind public figures during moments of need, especially within the digital creator space where fans often contribute directly to support creators facing hardship.
