Siyakholwa Kuse’s Journey from Addiction to WBC World Champion
Kevin 'Two Guns' Lerena is set to defend his WBC bridgerweight title against Ryad Merhy tomorrow night at the Hall des Expositions in Charleroi, Belgium.
The fight will be broadcast live on SABC 2 at 10:30pm and on SuperSport DStv channel 209, giving South African fans the chance to watch their champion in action.
Lerena, who won the WBC Silver bridgerweight title against Merhy in 2023 and became full WBC world champion in 2024, is eager for a decisive stoppage in this bout, his first defence outside of South Africa.
Trained by Peter 'Sniper' Smith, Lerena became the first African to win the bridgerweight title, a division created to bridge cruiserweight and heavyweight categories.
Merhy, an Ivorian-born Belgian-French former WBA cruiserweight world champion, will face Lerena for the second time, hoping to overturn the previous points defeat.
This international exposure on free-to-air television is significant, as SABC occasionally broadcasts major international boxing events, typically dominated by subscription networks such as SuperSport.Lerena is confident and motivated to showcase his skills in Belgium, representing South Africa on a global stage.
