Lagos State has paid ₦3.1 billion in compensation to 331 property owners whose land and buildings were acquired for infrastructure projects across Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Igbogbo, and Ogba.The governor, Sanwo-Olu, emphasized that the payment is part of efforts to ensure fairness and accountability in public projects.

The affected properties included ancestral land, residential buildings, and business premises impacted by road developments like the Igbe-Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way and Hospital Road in Badagry.

Each claim underwent verification through enumeration, valuation by estate surveyors, and title confirmation to ensure only legitimate owners received compensation.The amounts varied based on property size, type, and location.This follows past controversies, such as the 2024 Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway compensation package criticized as inadequate.Residents in Oworonshoki, whose homes were demolished in 2023, faced delays in payouts until October 2025.

Sanwo-Olu stressed that the payment is a matter of justice under the Land Use Act, ensuring affected residents are compensated for land acquired for public interest projects.The funds aim to improve road connectivity, ease traffic, and support economic activity in the affected areas.
