Texas Republicans are confronting a significant political challenge as Latino voters in the state increasingly favor Democratic candidates.According to recent polling from Texas Public Opinion Research, Latino support for Democrats is substantial in the upcoming 2026 elections.

State Representative James Talarico is currently leading in Senate race polls among Latino voters, holding 57% support against Republican Senator John Cornyn’s 25% and Attorney General Ken Paxton’s 30%.

Historically, Latino voters leaned Democratic, but Trump’s 2024 campaign saw an unusual surge of support from this group, contributing to his statewide victory.However, dissatisfaction with Trump’s economic and immigration policies appears to be reversing this trend.

Texas, a so-called 'majority-minority' state with a significant Hispanic population, has traditionally supported Republicans in statewide elections, though Democrats have narrowed the margin in recent cycles.

The polling indicates that Democrats could leverage this voter shift to gain an advantage in the midterms, signaling potential challenges for Republican candidates, particularly in Senate and statewide races.
