Lola Young has performed her newly released collaboration with James Blake, titled ‘From Down Here’, live for the first time at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Herrington Country Park. The track was officially released on Friday, May 22, marking Young’s first new music since her album ‘I’m Only Fucking Myself’.

Just a day after its release, she brought the song to the stage on Saturday, May 23, offering festival audiences an early live rendition of the emotionally reflective track.

Speaking about the song in recent interviews, Young explained that it explores the tension between craving emotional highs and recognising the value of remaining grounded.

She described it as a reflection on growth and stability, suggesting that while excitement and intensity can be alluring, a calmer and more secure emotional state can ultimately be more rewarding. She also characterised the song as part of a “bright new chapter” in her artistic journey.Young has previously spoken warmly about working with James Blake, noting that he has been a major creative influence throughout her life. She described collaborating with him as a deeply meaningful experience and said she considers him both an inspiration and a friend.Blake also appeared at the same festival, performing his own set immediately after Young’s appearance.Later, Young joined him on stage for another track, ‘Make Something Up’, further highlighting their creative partnership.

The performance comes shortly after Young’s return to live touring following a hiatus in 2025, during which she cancelled tour dates due to exhaustion and sought treatment for addiction, including attending support meetings. She has since spoken publicly about her recovery and her renewed readiness to perform.

At the festival and in recent interviews, she expressed feeling in a much more stable place and excited about releasing new music and returning to the stage.

Her openness about mental health and the pressures of touring has also been praised by fellow artists, who have highlighted the importance of honesty within the music industry.
